German Myanmar Business Chamber and EuroCham Myanmar are proudly joining forces to host a briefing on the new German Supply Chain Act.

In June 2021 this draft Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains was approved by the German Parliament. The EU has been working on a similar set of regulations on corporate due diligence and accountability for human rights, environmental, and governance impacts within an enterprise's business and throughout its supply chain. With the approval of the draft and the law coming into force in January 2023, Germany is a step ahead of the EU.

The main objective of the German Supply Chain Act is the compliance of German enterprises and their suppliers – both in Germany and abroad (e.g. Myanmar) – with established human rights and environmental standards. It thus departs from the previous (voluntary) soft law approach in favour of a mandatory framework for enterprises to comply with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

For this briefing we are grateful for the cooperation of our member Luther Law Firm, who will host a presentation on the following topics:

  • What is the purpose of the law?
  • What businesses & activities are subject to the law?
  • What are the most important duties of care?
  • How is compliance with the obligations monitored and enforced?
  • What are the sanctions under the law?
  • How to prepare your business for the new law?

This briefing should especially be relevant for (German) enterprises with subsidiaries in Myanmar as well as local companies working with partners in Germany.
